SPRING 2024 NEWSLETTER
Ainsdale Bowling Club
2024 SPRING NEWSLETTER
GREEN OPENING
The official opening of the green will be at 1.00pm on Saturday 23rd March.
This is an occasion for all members to come along and see for themselves the excellent work
carried out by our Green Manager and the volunteer maintenance crew over the closed season in
order to provide us with a green to be proud of. Come along, have a cup of tea and a cake, a roll on
the green and just enjoy the social atmosphere to help get the season underway at last.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Fees for 2024 are to remain as last year at £90 for playing members and £20 for social/non-playing
members. All subs are now due and should be paid by the end of April at the latest. Payment by
bank transfer is preferred, to Ainsdale Bowling Club, Sort Code 40-42-30, A/C No. 11432222, please
include your name as a Reference. Cheques should be made out to ‘Ainsdale Bowling Club’ and
either posted or delivered to Trevor Dyson, 18 Pinfold Lane, PR8 3QH.
BOWLING LEAGUES
All League fees will again be paid by the club. Fixture lists are now available on most of the League
websites and can also be accessed on the club’s own website at www.ainsdalebowlingclub.co.uk.
COACHING
Coaching sessions for beginners will again be organised by our qualified coaches, with a 4 week, one
hour course starting at 10am on Saturday 6th April and continuing each Saturday morning during April.
The cost for the course is just £4 per visit, all equipment will be provided. Members are asked to make
the dates and times known to family or friends who they think may be interested in playing bowls.
Postings on the local social media sites would be most helpful in promoting this much needed
initiative, a copy of the flyer produced by the club, is attached with the newsletter for this purpose.
It is also intended to provide refresher courses for existing members who may wish to improve their
game. The refresher courses will follow immediately after each of the introduction sessions, those
people interested in either the beginners or the refresher courses should contact Sanny McCarter on
01704 576211.
MAIN CLUB
The Main Club AGM is to be held in the club lounge at 7.30pm on Sunday 24th March and all bowling
club members are invited to attend.
Following the many comments throughout last season regarding access for bowls members to the
club lounge, the Main Club committee have, over the winter period, introduced major alterations to
the club lounge and bar arrangement. The original bar area is being redeveloped into a comfortable
lounge area, whilst the existing lounge and function room will become the predominant games area,
pool, darts etc. Bowls members will now be able to enjoy a relaxing drink after home matches and
hopefully be encouraged to make more use of the new comfortable surroundings.
CLUBHOUSE & TOILET CLEANING
The rota, previously adopted by the ladies, for the weekly cleaning duties is to be continued but will
now be opened to all members to take part. It is suggested that this should take place on Wednesday
mornings to coincide with the volunteer grounds and green maintenance team. There are only 26
weekly dates required in the season so If sufficient members are willing to assist, then it will need just
one cleaning duty per year for the people involved. Those members who would be willing to devote
about an hour cleaning the clubhouse and the two toilets are asked to put their names on the list on
the clubhouse notice board, choosing a date suitable for them. It is not a difficult task and all materials
are provided so if you like to see our facilities clean and well maintained please give this some thought.
MILK SUPPLIES
Also needed for the new season is a volunteer to take responsibility for keeping the clubhouse frig
topped up with fresh milk, full finance provided, please let Karen Dyson know if you can help out.
