GREEN MANAGER AGM REPORT

GREEN REPORT FOR AGM 2020

THE FIRST THING THAT I WANT TO DO IN MAKING THIS REPORT IS TO THANK THE MEMBERS OF THE CLUB WHO
HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO ENSURING THE GREEN AND SURROUNDS HAVE REMAINED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION
DURING THE COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS.
A TEAM OF 5 MEMBERS JIM ALDRIT, ALAN SUMNER, TREVOR DYSON, BILL MAKIN AND BRIAN KNEALE HAVE
CONTRIBUTED THE MOST IN MY OPINION BY BEING AT THE GREEN NEARLY EVERY WEDNESDAY MORNING AND
OTHER DAYS. THEIR WORK INVOLVED ENSURING THE GREEN SURROUNDS WERE MAINTAINED,CLEARING AREAS
THAT HAD FOR MANY YEARS BEEN NEGLECTED BEHIND THE “ AWAY “ SHELTER AND THE WATER TANK STORAGE
AREA.THEY HAVE REMOVED AND TREATED THE ARTIFICIAL GRASS GUTTER LININGS TO LIMIT WEED GROWTH AND
STARTED ON THE PROCESS OF INSTALLING NEW GUTTER LININGS. THEY PROVIDED HELP TO THE FENCE
CONTRACTOR IN PREPARING THE AREA BEFORE WORK COMMENCED.THEY ALREADY HAVE A PLAN FOR THE WORK
THEY WANT TO CARRY OUT IN 2021.
THANKS TO GRAHAM AND STEVE JOHNSTON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CLUBHOUSE, OUTBUIDINGS AND ALL THE
SEATING HAS BEEN PAINTED. GRAHAM NOT ONLY DONATED HIS TIME BUT ALSO THE PAINT. DIANE SUTHERN
CONTINUED TO MAINTAIN “HER BORDER “
WE ALSO HAD A SMALL GROUP OF MEMBERS WHO VOLUNTEERED TO REMOVE GRASS CUTTINGS FROM THE GREEN
AND SURROUNDING AREA TREVOR DYSON, BILL MAKIN, BRIAN KNEALE, TREVOR WILLIAMS, ALAN WILSON, GEOFF
BEACH KEVAN PRIESTNER AND PAUL HARRIS. FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS THIS GROUP REDUCED IN NUMBER OVER
THE TIME BUT OVERALL, THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVING OVER 500 BAGS OF GRASS CUTTINGS.
MIKE BOND EARLY ON AGREED TO TAKE ON THE TASK OF CUTTING THE GREEN AND HAS BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR
ENSURING THE GREEN HAS REMAINED IN EXCELLENT PLAYABLE CONDITION. HIS ATTENTION TO DETAIL IN
ENSURING THE EQUIPMENT IS CLEANED AND MAINTAINTAINED AND SET AT THE CORRECT HEIGHT CAN ONLY BE OF
BENEFIT TO THE CLUB. HE HAS RECEIVED INSTRUCTION ON THE USE OF THE ACCESSORIES FOR THE MOWER WHICH
WILL ENSURE THE GREEN WILL REMAIN IN EXCELLENT PLAYING CONDITION FOR YEARS TO COME.
THE GREEN SURROUNDINGS HAVE SEEN MUCH WORK CARRIED OUT IN RECENT TIMES. WE HAVE HAD NEW ROOF
COVERINGS TO THE TOILET BLOCK, MACHINE ROOM AND CLUBHOUSE, NEW WINDOWS HAVE BEEN PUT IN ALL BUT
TWO OF THE WINDOWS IN THE CLUBHOUSE. THE FENCE ON THE BORDER BY THE FLATS HAD FOR SOME TIME BEEN
OF CONCERN TO THE BOWLS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE AS THERE WAS A DANGER THAT THE HORIZONTAL
CONCRETE SLABS WOULD FALL AND INJURE A MEMBER. THE FENCE HAS NOW BEEN ATTENDED TO AND IS NOW
SAFE AND SECURE. ALL OF THIS WORK HAS BEEN THE RESULT OF RECEIVING GRANTS FROM SPORT ENGLAND, ONE
STOP SHOPS, SEFTON COUNCIL AND OUR LOCAL AINSDALE COUNCILLORS.
A NEW PUMP WAS FITTED TO THE WATERING SYSTEM PRIOR TO LOCK DOWN WHICH ALTHOUGH THE SAME TYPE
APPEARS TO BE MORE POWERFUL WHICH WILL WHEN USED ENSURE THE GREEN HAS A GREATER DISTRIBUTION OF
WATER PARTICULARLY TO THE CROWN OF THE GREEN.
THE COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS OBVIOUSLY LIMITED THE AMOUNT OF BOWLING ON THE GREEN BUT THANKS TO THE
RISK ASSESSMENTS CARRIED OUT BY LEN ADAMS AND KAREN DYSON THE GREEN WAS AVAILABLE. KAREN WAS
RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING THE BOOKING SYSTEM WHICH ENSURED LIMITED CONTACT WAS IN PLACE. THE
RESULT WAS THAT SOCIAL BOWLING DID TAKE PLACE. WE WERE ALSO ABLE TO HAVE COMPETITIONS FOR FEMALE
AND MALE SINGLES, MALE AND FEMALE DOUBLES AND MIXED DOUBLES. THIS RESULTED IN OVER 50 COMPETATIVE
MATCHES BEING PLAYED.
WE WERE VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE TRAVELLERS WHO CAMPED OUT ON THE MAIN CLUB GROUNDS DID NOT
ENTER THE GREEN AND CAUSE DAMAGE.
THE OVERALL RESULT OF THE YEAR IS THAT AINSDALE BOWLING CLUB GREEN, BUILDINGS AND SURROUNDS HAVE
UP TO THE DATE OF THIS REPORT HAVE WEATHERED THE COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS AND THANKS TO A FEW
MEMBERS OF THE CLUB WE ARE IN A GOOD POSITION FOR WHAT WE ALL HOPE WILL BE A NORMAL BOWLING
SEASON IN 2021
