ABC COMMITTEE MEETING Friday 29th May 2026
Present: Gary Baker (Chair), Trevor Dyson, Simon Biddolph, Karen Dyson, Brian Kneale, Haydn Preece, Lynn Roberti, and Vera McGee
- APOLOGIES: Peter Lord
- MINUTES: The minutes of previous meeting Friday 17th April 2026 were approved and signed by the Chair.
- MATTERS ARISING and ONGOING ACTION POINTS
· 25.11.28-3 Defibrillator & CPR training: Reminder to be sent to members via email SB
· 26.02.06-6 Discuss feasibility of Tea composter and compost heap with maintenance team HP & BK
· 26.02.06-7B GDPR forms being collected but no secretary at Main Club to forward them to. Monitor situation SB
· 26.02.06-10B Confirmed with Longton BC as Sunday 2nd August for Day Out. Form is in clubhouse and dietary choices to be circulated BK
· 26.04.17-9 Spare black match jacks to be kept with a member LA
· 26.04.17-10D Arthur Sowerby will be Westhead Captain from Friday 12th June onwards.
- SECRETARY’S REPORT (SB)
· May 2025-2026, the club lost 5 members (RIP) and 16 members resigned.
· At May 29th, we have 119 playing members, 7 social members, and 1 life member……total 127.
· 47 Ladies
· 80 Men
· It was agreed by all that, going forward, subs from members must be paid by 1st May and failure to do so will end their membership and their permission to play for the club in any league or competition fixtures.
- TREASURER’S REPORT (TD)
· Current finances stand at £14.5k with all bills paid except fees to Main Club ( due to issue with current management system)
· Forecast of £6k at end of season.
· Project Comfort work has finished with only ‘snagging’ to do.
6. GREEN MANAGER’S REPORT: (HP)
· Great feedback on green from Champion of Champions Day
· Good maintenance ongoing
· Wetting agent has been applied with feed
· Aeration due in June with Leather-jacket repulser application
- SAFEGUARDING & COACHING (GB/KD)
Coaching:
· John Clark’s improver course was well received.
· It was agreed to maintain opportunity of coaching throughout the season: £4 per session for a two-week course
· HP is progressing with his Level 2 training
· Trish Biddolph is progressing with her Level 1 training
Safeguarding:
· Nothing to report.
- COMPETITIONS (SB/GB)
· Review of Champion of Champions April 25th 2026
Many pluses including green, teamwork, raffle, BBQ,
refreshments, and funds raised for the club.
· Internal competitions have been run with success.
· President’s Day set for Sunday 5th July 1300-1600 with sandwiches & cakes etc.. To publicise. SB
· Suggestion by LA to contact Sanny McCarter about renaming of JG Bond Trophy was accepted by all. LA
- MAIN CLUB
Much discussion was had concerning the current situation. TD offered to set out a number of options for appraisal by the committee as to a way forward for the bowls section. TD
GB to liaise with other representatives about calling an EGM of Main Club GB
- GENERAL BUSINESS
A. Equipment Management: it was agreed that management of breakages & losses of equipment needs to be in the ownership of a committee member. Volunteer sought. ALL
B. Bowls Buddies: these rubberised bowls can be borrowed if needed.
C. Flag replacement: wind damage has made a replacement necessary. Options to be considered. SB/KD
11. AOB
A. Circulated Health & Safety Policy to be communicated to members and placed in clubhouse SB
B. Accident Book to be bought and placed in clubhouse: completed forms to be stored by Safeguarding Officer SB/GB
C. Wall-mounted first-aid kit to be bought and placed in clubhouse SB
