AUTUMN RENOVATIONS BEGIN ON GREEN

A very busy Thursday morning at Ainsdale Green. Andrew Church ( Lancashire Turf ) slit and seeded the green as the starting part of our autumn renovations. With germination conditions very good and heavy rain Thursday night we should see new grass in ten days or so. The green will have a second seeding session early October. Germination will not be quite as good then, it will depend on later autumn temperatures. The prolonged heatwave has stressed the green and it has been very important to retain our quality perennial quality grass by watering. The annual grasses seeded early and in the heat died off quicker than normal. So hopefully this new seeding will replace the not welcome poa annual grasses. The ground five inches down is absolutely rock solid so we will be breaking into that base in early October.
We are having a big problem with birds digging into our turf especially in the far right hand corner. If you are last on the green at anytime during the day or evening please pop the bird scarers onto the green in that corner and on the crown. Two green flashers and two owls.
For those who physically can please swish as worms are now everywhere. A good indication we have healthy soil but very messy when mowing or bowling!
